There are several people working in healthcare facilities that are responsible for millions of patient’s health records and files. Whether they are on hard copies like paper or in a computer system they all have to be protected. Why, because congress said so in 1996 with the Health Insurance and Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA). In the meantime, do not forget to lock your door or desk drawers that have patient information when you are leaving the office, especially for the day. One day that patient may be us. When it is, we will want to know that people are taking every consideration to protect our health and personal information.
